She had a heart for needy children and for the poor, evidenced each Sunday morning as she rode her bike to one of the poorest barrios of Puerto Cabezas to lead Scripture services. Her family included eight girls and four boys. Following her graduation from New Holstein High School in 1955, Kathleen entered St. Agnes Convent, Fond du Lac. Sister Barbara had the joy of being the President of the Franciscan Child Day Care Center from 2001-2017. When Sister Kathleen retired and returned to Fond du Lac in 2006, she volunteered with Hospice Hope, was a Eucharistic Minister at the hospital, helped at Salvatorian Center in St. Nazianz, and baked occasionally for the Fondy Food Pantry. Her ministry as a pharmacist continued for 42 years in hospitals in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Hays, Kansas; San Antonio, Texas; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sister is survived by her sister-in-law, Hazel Wagner, nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered. She joined the staff of Marian College in 1971 and was an elementary school counselor for the Fond du Lac Area Catholic Schools. Her varied ministries included serving in parish school settings as a classroom teacher, music teacher, and housekeeper for her CSA sisters in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, Kewaskum, Wisconsin, and Hudson, Wisconsin. She also enrolled in post graduate studies in Catholic Leadership and Educational Administration at Boston College, Boston, Massachusetts. Kathleen was born in Brothertown, Wisconsin, on August 4, 1936, to Ambrose Schmitz and Esther Andrew Schmitz. She was the third oldest in her family of eleven, five girls and six boys. We give thanks to God for Sisters life, her spirit, her service and her many years of proclaiming the Good News. She also earned several certificates in religious education. While serving in these various roles, Sister Grace Ann also enjoyed the community life experiences she shared with other CSA sisters living and ministering in the Mobile area. She made first profession of vows on August 15, 1969. They thrived there, and the girls grew up as one close-knit family. Sister Miriam also served as principal of St. Francis Parish School in Gallup, NM from 1993-1997 as part of a collaborative outreach of the Franciscan Neumann-Bachmann heritage Communities collaborated to serve the poor in Roswell and Gallup, NM, especially Hispanic and Native American. Beginning in 1948, Sister Francis Assisi devoted thirty years to leadership in teacher education at Marian College. From our life in community we are sent to extend the mission of Jesus through our presence and service. Sister Mary Catherine ministered throughout her life in food services at St. Joseph Orphanage in Baraga, Michigan, and in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, at St. Marys Springs Academy, St. Agnes Convent, and Boyle Apostolic Center.
